Behind the façade: innovation and tradition in Cosin’s Library

September 15, 2022 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Door into Cosin's Library, a very early public library in Northeast England

Did you know that Cosin’s Library is possibly the earliest public library in the North-East? Or that Cosin’s library design was quite revolutionary for seventeenth-century England?

We are opening Cosin’s Library after hours for one evening only. Join Danielle Westerhof, our Rare Books Curator, for one of four 10-minute introductory talks. You will learn why Cosin built his library and why it is such a curious mixture of innovation and tradition. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to have a look around the library and to ask any questions you may have about Cosin, his building, or his books.

To book your tickets, sign up via Eventbrite.
